How to Pack your Travel Bag to Avoid Wrinkled Clothes

It's hard to look your best when wearing a wrinkled up t-shirt but unfortunately it's a common scenario when you're traveling. Keeping your clothes crisp, unwrinkled, and looking like they do when they're hung in your closet at home is almost impossible, but there are things you can do to avoid wrinkling your clothes when packing your travel bag.

The first tip is that not everything should be folded in a flat traditional manner, this is a misconception that's believed by most. Items which don't require ironing and don't have creases are actually better rolled than folded. Some examples of these items are t-shirts, jeans, or other, typically casual, clothes. By folding a t-shirt in the traditional flat square manner you can cause creases to show on the shirt at the folds. Instead, the correct way to pack items like this is to roll them. When you roll there are no hard edges to be pressed down and creased, and instead you end up with a smooth, relatively wrinkle free item of clothing.

For items which do require folding such as a suit jacket or pants, it's best to fold them around a couple of rolled up t-shirts. By doing this you help avoid a crease from being formed at the fold. When you do fold these iron-able items make sure you're folding with the side that everyone will see to the outside. In other words with a suit jacket or dress shirt, the front of them should be facing out once folded. At the fold, the inside fabric of the fold has a smaller radius to cover so it can get slightly bunched up, whereas the outside layer of fabric is pulled tight around the fold, keeping it from becoming as wrinkled.

The travel bag you choose is also important in avoiding wrinkled clothing at your destination. Your items should be snugly in place within the bag once packed. If they're not then they will likely become shifted when traveling, causing them to loose their carefully folded appearance you spent so much time on, and leaving them a big wrinkled mess.

If you're traveling on business and can't afford to have wrinkled clothing, or are very particular about the way you look, then it's probably worth your time investing in a luggage set which is designed to keep your clothes looking like they came out of your closet at home. For suits there's really no substitute for a hanging suit bag since they are typically only folded once in the middle, minimizing the number of possible creases on your suit, and preserving the pressed-look as much as possible. For all other items, the hanging travel bag from Rise and Hang is your best bet. This bag features a set of collapsible shelves which holds all of your clothes, keeping them folded and in place. The unique design of this bag allows it to hang on any standard closet bar or the back of a door, allowing you to unpack in second and giving you an experience similar to your drawers at home.

Sure when you're on vacation having a few drinks you might not mind having a wrinkled t-shirt on. But if you're hoping to look your best and impress on your next trip, then make sure you pack accordingly!
